Met Oval alumni Matt Ratajczak -- a standout player in the Met Oval Academy 2009 Class -- has signed a professional contract with the Icelandic club Fjölnir Football Club. Following his time at Met Oval, Matt went on to become a four-year All-American at Williams College.
We spoke to Matt about his time at Met Oval, who wrote us from Iceland to let us know that: "Met Oval played a huge role in my life growing up in New York. In middle school and high school, the three main locations that I couldn't live without were my home, my school, and the Met Oval. In its very essence, yes, it's just a turf soccer field that overlooks Manhattan. But to me, it's a place to grow as a human being, meet some awesome people, and ideally get better at soccer."
"In a certain light, it's funny because it seems like it's just another place where people can try to work together to kick a ball into a goal. But I guarantee it's much, much more than that. I am forever grateful for everything I've learned and taken away from all of my experiences at the Met Oval."
Hearty congrats to Matt on his success, and good luck this year in Iceland.
