Met Oval is proud to announce that three of our 2001 born players have been selected to the U.S. Soccer National Team pool -- the most from any single team in the country along with Chivas USA (Los Angeles, CA).
Veljko Petkovic (Midfielder, Ridgewood, NY), and Davide Clarkson (Defender, New York, NY) have been called out to Carson, California as part of a 48-player roster for October 11th to 19th. Between two-a-day sessions, intra-squad scrimmages and a match against Arsenal FC’s U 13/14s, the boys have an exciting eight days ahead of them. Technical Director Paul Buckle goes into more detail:
“First of all, everyone deserves a pat on the back – coaches, the board but most importantly their peers who are pushing them. That’s what we’ve tried to create at the Academy. It’s our ethos. We’re a club that specializes in development.
Their progression to the national camp level speaks for Paul and Met Oval’s core philosophy: development first, results second. This philosophy has shown immediate results for Met Oval and our Youth Center of Excellence. This past year Met Oval lost several of its players to the New York Red Bulls Academy. Paul views this as a positive: “If clubs are trying to poach our players, then it means we’re doing something right. We can see it in the academy games and so does the USSF.”
