Met Oval Spring 2014 Update

After a long and arduous winter, the snow has melted into the familiar sight of trainings and games at Met Oval.  As we head back outdoors for the Spring season, we also take stock of our progress over the past year.  With the hiring of Paul Buckle as Technical Director, facility upgrades, and operational innovation (along with much more!), we have set the foundation for another year of growth to come.

We are also happy to report that we recently had our mid-season report from the U.S. Soccer Federation, and that Met Oval will remain USSF Development Academy for the 2014-15 season.  The USSF is very positive about our achievements over the past year and, working with the USSF, we continue to be focused on our simple but ambitious goal: to develop players for the U.S. national team.  We will once again field a U-14 team for the Fall 2014-Spring 2015 season.  With that in mind, keep on the lookout for further announcements here as we take those next steps, working closely with USSF, in building Met Oval into a true Center of Excellence.

We head into the Spring with positive momentum.  The U-14 Development Academy team closed out the Fall season with wins in two out of their final three games and start the Spring season with a challenging matchup against the Red Bulls.  The U-8s through U-13s spent the Winter busy winning indoor tournaments, in large part due to a successful futsal winter training program that feature trainings three days per week.   The U-13 Girls team will also look to build on its successful inaugural season for Met Oval, and the U-18 Boys are looking ahead to Spring college showcases.

As in past years, approximately 20% of Met Oval players this Spring will remain on full need-based scholarships. This past winter, we hosted our first annual Winter Fundraiser, where the outpouring of support from the Met Oval community was tremendous.  The event also displayed the shared understanding within our community of the importance of an environment where children of all backgrounds can develop into outstanding individual players while learning the value of hard work, dedication and teamwork.  We have come a long way, but we have a lot of work to do yet.  To support Met Oval in this mission, please click here to make a tax-deductible donation.
