Gianfranco Barone, a goalkeeper for Met Oval's U-15 team, recently spent ten days training with Serie A club AS Roma followed by another three days training with ACF Fiorentina. Gianfranco was invited for the trial following a recommendation by a U.S.-based scout for the Italian clubs.
Gianfranco joined the Met Oval Academy approximately 5 years ago and has been growing as a talent under coach Ivo Mohorovic. Recognizing this accomplishment, Coach Mohorovic states that: "Gianfranco has incredible work-ethic and talent which separates him from many other players. Since a very young age he has worked extremely hard to get to this point. His passion for the game is second to none and this is a well-deserved opportunity for him."
Met Oval Technical Director Paul Buckle added that "Gianfranco's development has benefited from the professional environment at Met Oval, which has enabled him to be spotted by a top club in the world. It is a clear indication that Met Oval can develop players, and that top scouts from around the world are watching Met Oval players perform. This is just the start of what we can provide for up-and coming players in the New York area."
We congratulate Gianfranco on his impressive achievement, and look forward to more to come. For players interested in trying out for a potential Met Oval team, click here.
